Notes on the Black Hills Gold “Certificate of Authenticity”:

Front: Congratulations for selecting Coleman Black Hills Gold Jewelry. We hereby certify that our jewelry is crafted in the Black Hills of South Dakota, USA. Signed by Dwight A Sobczak [the CEO, who passed away in 2017. The Coleman Company closed the same year but has since reopened and can be accessed through its website BlackHillsGold.com. The rest of the information on the front of the Certificate is outdated, so I’m not including it here; the correct contact information can be accessed through its current website.

Reverse: Lifetime Limited Guarantee. We are proud to guarantee our jewelry under normal wear against defects in materials and workmanship.

According to legend, a French goldsmith named Henri Le Beau became lost during the “gold rush days” of the middle 1870s in the Black Hills of South Dakota and fell asleep believing he was dying of thirst and starvation. During a dream, he saw a mountain stream with grapevines growing on its banks.

Upon awakening, he walked over a rise and found the stream and grapevines just as he had in his dream and, out of gratitude, dedicated his life and talents to creating jewelry in the shapes of grape clusters and leaves fashioned in rose, green, and yellow gold.

Today, a series of up to 40 different steps are necessary to capture the same dramatic detail in our traditional and contemporary Black Hills Gold designs.
