Veteran plates were very difficult to obtain because the DAV plate also acted
as a handicapped placard, but only within Indiana. However, disabled veterans
were allowed to exchange their plates for ones that contained the universal
handicapped symbol (wheelchair). Only the disabled veteran was allowed to use
handicapped spaces, no matter who was driving the DAV auto. In other words, the
veteran had to be driving or riding as a passenger (See Indiana Military License Plates for current rules and forms).
